How to Reduce a Costly Water Bill

No one likes to receive an unusually high water bill. But rather than paying it off and chalking it up to uncontrollable price increases, you might need to investigate ways you can reduce your overall usage.

Here are some common causes of high water bills:

Inefficient Toilets

Toilets are the biggest culprit when it comes to water usage. One flush can use between six to 32 litres of water, amounting to over 25 per cent of your monthly water bill! Newer toilets provide significant water savings, with most boasting less than four litres per flush.

Leaky Faucets

Hearing an ever-present drip from your shower faucet isn’t just annoying—it’s a big waste. A faucet that leaks at a rate of one drip per second can waste up to 20 litres of water per day. And, over time, that’s a lot of money.

Seasonal Usage

In the summer months, it can be tempting to run your sprinkler multiple times a day for the sake of your lawn. But to cut down on costs, try watering in the morning. This allows the water to soak deep into the soil without evaporating before it gets warmer in the day.
